Chapman Mills Conservation Area
Enjoy a 1.5 km stroll through some of the
Rideau’s most sensitive and beautiful habitats. Lookouts, walkways
and boardwalks lead visitors through natural shoreline, wetlands and
flood plain areas that are unique in the City of Ottawa. Chapman
Mills is located off Regional Road 73 between Winding Way and Lodge
Road. The parking lot is off of Winding Way.
Baxter Conservation Area
Explore 68 hectares and follow over five
kilometres of trails through wetlands, conifer plantations, mixed
forest, alder thickets, nut groves, wildflower gardens and a solar
energy display. In the summer, take a refreshing dip in the Rideau
at the Baxter beach. Baxter Conservation Area is on Regional Road 13
(Dilworth Road) off Highway 416, south of Kars.
Dickinson Square Conservation Area
Rich in natural and cultural history, Dickinson
Square is an ideal stop in the Village of Manotick. Visit Watson’s
Mill — a 19th century grist mill that is still in working condition.
Stroll across the dam and feed some of the resident ducks or picnic
in front of the historic Dickinson House. Dickinson Square is
located just south of Ottawa.
Foley Mountain Conservation Area
High atop a granite ridge overlooking the
historic Upper Rideau waterway and Village of Westport is Foley
Mountain. Foley is famous for its dynamic, hands-on, programs for
school children and youth groups. Enjoy the scenic lookout, sandy
beach, hiking and cross country skiing trails. Find us off County
Road 10 up the “mountain."
